Cantor Shannon McGrady Bane
Cantor Shannon McGrady Bane joined the Temple Beth Tikvah faculty as b’nei mitzvah tutor in January 2017. A Jew by choice, Shannon actually began her Jewish journey at Temple Beth Tikvah right after graduating from Scripps College, and Temple Beth Tikvah has been an important anchor in her life ever since.
Shannon served as cantor for Temple Beth Ohr in La Mirada for 14 years, where she led Shabbat and holiday services, taught in the religious school, trained b’nei mitzvah students, and led adult and children’s choirs as well as a volunteer band. Prior to that, she was the cantorial soloist for University Synagogue in Irvine. A member of the American Conference of Cantors, Shannon received her cantorial certification in 2004 as well as an MA in Judaic Studies in 1999. Soon after her certification, Shannon became the Pacific-Southwest regional president of the ACC, helping to organize cantorial fundraising concerts and regional conferences. Shannon was also an active member of the ACC Social Action and Justice Committee, and served as co-chair of the committee, while also representing the ACC on the Religious Action Center’s Commission on Social Action.
